What is the CPS High School Admissions Test? (SOURCE)

For SY24 GoCPS applications, CPS will use one exam, the CPS High School Admissions Test (HSAT), to determine admittance into choice and selective enrollment programs that require academic criteria. CPS eighth grade district and charter students (except those who qualify for the Dynamic Learning Maps-Alternate Assessment) will take this test during the school day at their school; non-CPS students will take it on the weekends at a designated testing site (Lindblom High School or Lane Tech High School).  Using one exam and giving all students the opportunity to take the test at school reduces testing for students interested in choice and selective programs and promotes equity by providing all students access to the test during school hours.

Components of the High School Admissions Test
Subject Time # of Items
Reading 40 minutes 40
Written Expression 40 minutes 54
Mathematics 40 minutes 40
Vocabulary 15 minutes 40
Total 2 hours and 15 minutes 174

Who should be tested?

CPS (including charters): All CPS 8th grade students will be tested on a school day at their school of enrollment. Students who qualify for DLM-AA are not required to test, but may opt to participate.

Non-CPS: All non-CPS students in 8th grade who would like to apply for admission to CPS high school choice programs or selective enrollment high schools for the 2023-2024 school year must take the High School Admissions Test at an approved testing site.

How are results reported and used?

Students will be able to view their scores on the GoCPS platform.

Results will be included as a component of students’ GoCPS applications for admission to high school choice programs and selective enrollment high schools.
