For interested students, all athletic participants must be in good academic standing and have updated physical and medical records and no disciplinary infractions.

Basketball

South Loop Elementary School has competitive basketball teams for girls and boys, grouped by grades 5th-6th and grades 7th-8th. Attendance at team practices and competitions is required.  

  • Eligibility: No try outs or cuts, participation based on first 15 to register. If there are over 10 players, coaches will determine a Varsity and Junior Varsity team, with the Varsity members playing in the CPS league games.
  • Season: Winter, Nov-Feb
  • Commitment: practice schedules will be communicated by volunteer coaches separately and game schedules are typically every other Saturday sometime between 9am – 3pm.

Cross Country

Cross Country is a competitive program for boys and girls. Athletes learn about running and endurance, while competing against schools across the city. There are three or four meets along with a regional meet. Qualifiers may compete in a city championship. Each athlete must be able to provide his/her transportation to/from the meet. Attendance at team practices and competitions is required.

  • Eligibility: Open to all students in grades 5th-8th.
  • Season: Fall
  • Commitment: Morning practices from 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and meets.

Flag Football (Co-Ed)

Flag Football is available for 5-8th grade girls and boys.  Athletes compete in games against other schools across the city. Each athlete must be able to provide his/her transportation to/from games and practice. Attendance at team practices and competitions is required.

  • Eligibility: Enrollment is open to all students in grades 5th-8th.
  • Season: Spring
  • Commitment: Practice days tbd 1-2 times a week and 5-7 Saturday games during the season
  • Fee: None

Soccer (Girls)

Girls Soccer is available for 5-8th grade girls.  Athletes compete in matches against other schools across the city. Each athlete must be able to provide his/her transportation to/from games. Attendance at team practices and competitions is required.

  • Season: Spring
  • Commitment: Practice days tbd 1-2 times a week and 5-7 Saturday games during the season
