MUSIC

The South Loop Band

The South Loop Band is part of the regular school day and participates in citywide competitions. More information and the band supply list are available on the South Loop Band website

  • Enrollment: September for Grades 4th-8th
  • Fee: Yes, depending on use of school instrument or rental. Instruments are provided subject to availability, and parents can rent instruments if necessary.

Guitar Time

Guitar Time is a club created for anyone who’s curious about music! Once a week, our security officer Mr. Charlie invites students to experiment with the guitar through fun group activities. Students can bring their own guitar or use a guitar owned by the school. Our focus is to help young musicians in our community discover new talents, try new things & of course, have a blast in the process!

  • Enrollment: Grades 4-8; All skill levels welcome; Wednesdays from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Private Vocal Lessons

Is your child planning to be the next American Idol? Get him or her started with private vocal lessons. Our music teacher, Ms. Anders is offering fee-based, 30-minute private voice lessons after school Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Spaces are limited and fill quickly, so enroll early. Participation requires a quarterly commitment.

The after-school program, Youth Guidance, offers enrichment classes with a focus on dance. All South Loop Elementary students may register for classes, whether or not your child is enrolled in the after-school program.  

As program offerings are subject to change per quarter, Youth Guidance manages information and communication on class options, enrollment dates, grade participation parameters, and associated fees.

Sample offerings may include ballet, hip-hop, and more.

Drama Club

The after-school program, Youth Guidance, offers enrichment classes with a focus on drama. All South Loop Elementary students may register for classes, whether or not your child is enrolled in the after-school program.

Sample offerings may include Lookingglass Theater, Knuckleball Comedy, and more.

MEDIA & VISUAL ARTS

Art Club

South Loop Art Club is open to 4th-8th graders that are looking for extra enrichment in the visual arts. Every Monday after school until 5pm, student artists work with different art mediums based on their interests. Most projects center social emotional learning and self-reflection/discovery.

  • Enrollment: At the beginning of each semester (September and January), students should find or email Ms. Baldwin for a permission slip. Enrollment is first come, first served– whoever turns in their permission slips first gets a spot. Spaces are limited.

The after-school program, Youth Guidance, offers enrichment classes with a focus on media and visual arts.  All South Loop Elementary students may register for classes, whether or not your child is enrolled in the after-school program.
