Welcome Back Lion Pride! We are excited to begin the 2018-19 school year! Here are some reminders to help us have a ROARING good first week back to school! First Day of School is September 4, 2018.
Main Building:
2nd – 4th grades- 8:30 am
5th – 8th grades – 8:20 am
Class list will be posted on August 27th from 8:00 am- 4:00 pm daily at the main building in the main entrance.
School Supply List Drop off:
Please label with your child’s first and last name and grade.
Main Building Only: Tuesday – Thursday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Families can also visit the main office to submit updated medical, eye and dental records, payschool fee ($75.00 per student) with a check, money order, credit card or cash) and register for Youth Guidance after-school program from 8:00 am -3:00 pm. Teachers will not be available.

Several school – wide policies have been updated: Cell Phone, Gym Uniform,School Uniform, Arrival & Dismissal Procedures, Snacks, and Policies
First Day Arrival:
On the first day of school, school staff and parent volunteers (look for the volunteer shirts) will be available on the playground to inform parents of their child’s classroom teacher and room number.
Parents may walk their child to class on the first day of school only.
Arrival:
Students can arrive as early as 7:45 am (Main Building Only) and must report to the lunchroom.
The playground opens at 8:00 am with staff supervision.
The school day starts for all 2nd – 4th grade students at 8:30 am.
The school day starts for all middle school students at 8:20 am.
Middle School students will not be allowed in their lockers after 8:30 am until the next transition time.
Parking/Traffic Flow:
Parents, please do not park in the school parking lot between the hours of 7am – 4pm daily. Staff will not be asked to move their vehicle for blocked cars. If you need to visit the office please park on State Street. Follow all parking signs posted.
The flow of traffic is extremely important to prevent traffic congestion. All students must be dropped off on 12th & Federal Street. If you want to remain with your child, please park on State Street or 12th & Plymouth Court beginning at the entrance of the playground. The other area is designated for school buses.
All South Loop Parents/Guardians must drive to 14th Federal Street, make a right turn and drop off at the designated area. Look for Kiss N Go staff. Always follow the flow of traffic. See graphic below.
ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING ON FEDERAL ST.
Students are dropped off on Federal. Federal must remain free of congestion. Stay in your car and keep moving forward.
- Do not park or drop off in front of the main school entrance. This area is reserved for bus pick-up and drop-off only.
- Middle School students can be dropped off and picked up on the west side of State Street (State and Roosevelt) or the corner of 1400 South State to help alleviate traffic congestion during drop off.
- Do not turn right on 14th Plymouth Court or Left on 13th Plymouth Court at any time.
- Have your child packed and ready to exit the vehicle in the designated area. Parents do not exit your vehicle for any reason. It is important to keep the flow of traffic moving.
- Extended Day families are expected to follow the flow of traffic at all times. We service several schools for After-school drop off. Plymouth Court must remain clear at all times. Do not drive north on Plymouth Court at any time. Plymouth Court is a one way street from 3:15 am – 3:45 pm.
- Do Not block our neighbors’ Driveway
Breakfast/Lunch: Provided on the First Day of School
We are a peanut and nut free school. If your child has any dietary needs please inform the classroom teacher and the main office on the first day of school.
Breakfast (7:45 am) and lunch is free for all students. If your child brings his/her own lunch please send only healthy options. Sweets and any form of Flaming Hot chips are not allowed to prevent sharing. We will not accept lunch delivery for students (Uber eats, office visits etc) any food delivered will be held to the end of the day and your child will be provided a school lunch.

We service other schools for bus drop off and pick up for our own students, please do not park on 12th Plymouth Court starting at the exit of the school‘s parking lot to the tree with the posted red stop sign.
2nd – 4th grade students not picked up by 3:35 pm will be held outside of the main office. Students cannot remain in the park without adult supervision for any reason. Failure to pick up your child by 3:45 pm result in DCFS or CPD being contacted.
South Loop offers an after school program to support parent’s busy schedules by providing supervised engaging activities for our students. All students not enrolled in the Extended Day program are expected to be picked up or directed to walk home by 3:45 pm.
The playground area is utilized by our after-school program. Please do not direct your child to wait in the park, playground or the corners of 12th & Plymouth Court and 14th & Federal Street. Students may not remain on the school playground without adult supervision.
School/Gym Uniform : See Parent Handbook
Students are expected to wear their school uniform every day.
Wednesdays, beginning on September 19th are our school-wide Anti – Bully Day. Students can wear a solid purple shirt (ONLY) and blue jeans (ONLY) or theschool uniform on this day. Failure to follow this policy will result in exclusion from extra- curricular activities and/or detention.
Designated gym days will be sent home the first week of school. Students are required to wear the school‘s gym uniform or a solid grey shirt and navy blue bottom only. No exceptions. Failure to follow this policy will result in exclusion from gym activities. An alternative gym option will be provided.
Youth Guidance:
After-school care will begin on the first day of school.
