Attention 5th-8th Girls/Gender Nonbinary Students interested in STEM: compileHer’s Capstone Event – May 9th at UChicago!

Students to compileHer’s upcoming capstone event on May 9th from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the University of Chicago’s Computer Science Instructional Laboratory (5730 S Ellis Ave, Chicago, IL 60637). compilerHer is a University of Chicago student organization that works to engage young women in tech and computer science through fun, hands-on events aimed at improving gender equity in STEM. Each year, we host hackathons, workshops, and field trips that reach over 300 students from across Chicago.

At the event, students will get hands-on experience with creative technology projects, including:

  • Designing and building their own games using PICO-8, a retro pixel game development platform
  • Creating custom game controllers using Arduino boards and circuitry

This will be a fun, beginner-friendly opportunity for students to explore coding, game design, electronics, and creative problem-solving in an interactive environment. This event is free and registration is open to all girls and gender nonbinary students in the 5th-8th grade. To learn more and sign up, parents can register here.
