Call for Friends & Family Board Members

Hello Parents,

The Board of Friends and Family of South Loop School, Inc. is looking for dedicated, hard-working and enthusiastic board members to help carry out the mission of the organization to support South Loop Elementary School and help our kids learn, build skills and thrive in the world. This is a great opportunity to get involved in making sure our school has the resources they need to continue to provide great educational experiences for our children. 

Friends and Family of South Loop School, Inc (FFSLS), is a charitable 501(c)3 Corporation whose mission is to provide supplemental educational resources for South Loop Elementary School through financial giving. FFSLS is a volunteer organization and has no paid employees, so that 100% of contributions benefit South Loop Elementary School.

Our fundraising efforts play a key role in the success of our school. With the contributions from parents, friends, and local business owners, we are able to provide critically needed support for our students and teachers.

Requirement:

Current parent/guardian of a South Loop Elementary School student.

Expectations and responsibilities for board members:

Board members are expected to have the financial acumen to read and understand Friends and Family of South Loop School’s financial statements and to otherwise help the board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities.

Board members are expected to attend 1 monthly meeting. They are expected to read board materials in advance of board meetings and to come prepared to ask questions, participate in discussions, and carry on initiatives that pertain their specific roles.

Board members are expected to responsibly represent FFSLS to the community and to advocate for our mission, programs, and services as appropriate.

Board terms last for 1 year and board members can serve until resignation or removal by quorum. 

Positions Open:

Events Director: Coordinates fundraising events; Liaison between fundraising chairpersons/committees & board members. Subcommittees include: Fall Fundraiser, Spring Benefit, others as needed.

Treasurer: Tracks and monitors Board funds, reviewing income and expense reports and reporting to the Board monthly. Will work with an accountant to file annual taxes and 501(c3) statements with the Secretary of State.

Secretary: Keeps minutes of meetings of the Board and corporate records; upload documents to the central document repository, help coordinate meetings and coordinate with administration as needed.
