South Loop Families,
When I pause and think about the last days our South Loop school buildings were filled with the bustling activity of our students, I am in awe of all that has happened since. From the initial days of e-learning and the scary and unknown pandemic, to a summer of turbulence and riots in our city, a return to remote learning, the presidential election and the fight over the return to in-person learning, I am so proud of the way this school community has stuck together, supported one another, and showed our lion P.R.I.D.E. I am grateful to our staff, our parents, and our students for all they have accomplished since last March, for all the hurdles they have overcome, and for the resilience and grace they have shown through challenging moments.
This Monday marks yet another shift for us as we prepare to welcome students back to the Primary building. As with any new phase, there are nerves and there may be some apprehension. There is also an excitement to have our teachers back in the buildings and to welcome our students back to their school while continuing to support those who have opted to continue learning from home.
We know the return to school has been a divisive topic, but I believe it is our role as public school educators to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for our students, and that is what we have worked to prepare. I look forward to continuing to partner with you at South Loop, and I know that by working together, by communicating with one another and supporting one another, we can make this return to in-person learning and continuation of remote learning successful.
