Spring Sports: Coaches Needed

SLES may be able to offer two additional sports this Spring for Grades 5-8*, if we can secure coaches and communication liaisons. Below is a summary of the CPS Spring sports, and where we need volunteers. If you are interested in coaching or would like more information, please email carlson.tracy@gmail.com

Spring Sports Overview

5/6 Grade Co-Ed Flag Football – Coach needed
7/8 Grade Co-Ed Flag Football – Coach needed
Would also like a communication liaison to connect communication from Coach Doyle and coaches.

5/6 Grade Girls Soccer – Coach needed
7/8 Grade Girls Soccer – Coach needed
Would also like a communication liaison to connect communication from Coach Doyle and coaches.

5/6 Grade Co-Ed Track & Field – Coach Doyle
7/8 Grade Co-Ed Track & Field – Coach Doyle

Coach Overview:

  • Estimated Commitment: estimate 3 hours a week with practice(s), games, and team communication. Prior to coaching, volunteers are required to gain Volunteer Level I approval.
  • Season: The Spring Season will begin the week of Mar 21 and run through mid- to late-May.
  • Practices: As the coach, you determine the practice schedule (typically 1-2x a week for 1 hour each practice). Practices would need to be outside and can take place at Cotton Tail Park, NTA fields, or Roosevelt Park.
  • If practicing before school, ensure students are in school just before 8:30 am; if practicing after school, it would need to start at 3:30 pm.
  • Games/Meets: The teams will have CPS competitions, and the days and times will be set by the CPS CPL (Chicago Public League Athletics):
    • Flag Football:  [Regular Season] April 2, 23, 30, May 7, 14 [Championships] May 21, June 4
    • Soccer: [Regular Season] April 2, 23, 30, May 7, 14 [Championships] May 21, June 4
    • Track & Field: [Regular Season] May 4, 13, 16, 25 [Championships] May 28, June 4
  • Communication: Each sport will hopefully have a liaison to pass along information on the game days, times, and any needs for the team (requirements to select who is playing, etc). The coach (or ideally, if they have a parent communication support person) would email the team to confirm practices, answer questions, and provide updates.

Please let me know if you are interested and if you are not, but may know someone who is, please forward to them – it doesn’t have to be a parent at the school!

Thanks, Tracy

*SLES does not control the sports offered for CPS students, the dates of the games/meets, or the age restrictions. This is managed and determined by CPS.
