This is my 16th year as an official South Loop School Teacher, but my 17th year at SL. I had the fortunate opportunity to student teach in the 2006-7 school year as well. I spent the first 5 years teaching 4th grade, which I loved. When the chance to move up to Middle School came along, I was hesitant, but it’s been such a rewarding experience with 5th-8th graders, and now I can’t imagine teaching any other age group. For the past few years I taught Social Studies in middle school, but was also the technology coordinator. This year my focus will mostly be on media literacy and technology for grades K-8, and I will continue to be the Tech Co.
I graduated in 2007 with my B.A. in Elementary Education. I went on to get my Masters in Ed. in 2012 from American College of Education with a focus on Educational Leadership and EdTech. I have continued my professional growth through various online platforms such as Adobe, code.org, and google suite. I am also a Google Certified Educator!
One of the things I value most about being a teacher is the relationships I build with my students. Through Yearbook Club, Beta Trips, middle school events, and the 8th Grade Class trip, I learn so much about the individuals who walk through our halls. I ensure that my students know that my door is always open to them for any of their academic or social-emotional needs.
When I’m not at SL, I love spending time with my daughter, my husband Kevin, and our dog Lennon. We enjoy binge watching Netflix shows, Wednesday night dates, slurpees (he proposed at 7-Eleven!), concerts, college football, and spending time with family. My favorite thing to do right now is hanging out with my soon to be 5 year old daughter, Penelope!
