I’m a proud graduate of the University of Iowa class of ‘02 (BA) and Antioch University Seattle class of ‘07 (Masters in Education). This is my 12th year teaching at South Loop and my 18th year teaching cumulatively. I have always been a middle school teacher, having taught all middle school grades 6-8 in my tenure. I have taught in many different school settings including private schools, charter schools, public schools, and even two years at an international school in Guatemala! While I have focused my career on Science in the past decade or so, I also taught social studies and language arts for many years.
Some of my interests include:
I LOVE to travel, both international and domestic. (28 countries and 32 national parks and counting!)
I’ve really honed my cooking skills over the last 5 or so years. I have also won a legit team BBQ competition.
I love all things soccer – I love Arsenal FC (North London Forever!), Chicago Fire FC, and am a supporter of both the US Men’s and Women’s national teams! I’m very much looking forward to next summers World Cup here in the US. I will be traveling to MANY of the games.
I enjoy reading, especially post-apocalyptic fiction, science fiction, and historical fiction.
I have developed a bit of a green thumb and enjoy growing edible herbs and vegetables. I down many hours tending to my thriving garden this summer.
Lastly, I love swimming. I’ve swam competitively, coached competitively at multiple levels, competed in triathlons, taught adult and children’s swim lessons for decades, and still swim laps regularly.
