If you haven’t already heard, two of South Loop’s very own teachers, Ms. Chan (4th Grade Math) and Mr. Coppola (7th Grade ELA) each received the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching! Over 570 teachers were nominated, 30 were chosen as finalists, and 10 received this award. On Wednesday, May 10th, Golden Apple, CPS, and news teams came to the school to surprise both Ms. Chan and Mr. Coppola with their award, along with a $5000 check and a spring sabbatical to attend classes at Northwestern University next school year. After surprising each teacher in their classrooms, we had a school-wide celebration in the gym. Our 6th grade band and our South Loop Cheerleaders performed as students, staff, family members, and parents cheered for our amazing teachers.
Over the last few days, Ms. Chan, Mr. Coppola, and the school have gotten a lot of attention! Below you will find links to some articles published and their surprise videos from Golden Apple.
