Congratulations to our spelling bee wizards! Learn what word propelled one student to victory…

By Will S. and Ignas P., 5th grade

The South Loop School spelling bee happened on Friday, Jan. 10. As a participant (Ignas), I know that the day was a very tense day for all the spellers.

The final four participants were:

Sinan A. (5th grade)

Yoon K. (2nd grade)

Jeannie N. (2nd grade)

Alana L. (8th grade)

These spellers have clearly proven their skills, as they beat out all of the other students at this school. They were given words like “sugary,” “prospect,” “scandal,” “dangerous” and “concern.”

After three rounds, there were only two students left. In the end, Sinan (pictured above) won by spelling the word “positivity.” This is the second year in a row that he has won.

“It feels great and exciting,” Sinan said after Friday’s win.

As for now, Sinan will have to prepare for the test he will take to get into the Chicago Public Schools citywide spelling bee on March 12. Go Sinan! Your school is rooting for you!
