South Loop students to participate in walkout Friday

By Jenna I., 8th grade

Student Council has designed a middle school gun control walkout to take place on Friday, April 20th. We have come together to raise awareness for the lives lost in the Parkland and Columbine school shootings. Five students have created speeches and will be speaking at the walkout. Meanwhile, 5th-8th grade have been creating posters to showcase at the walkout, and CNN will be broadcasting it live.

The walkout will occur at 10 am. Students will walk to the park area and return back into the school by 10:20 a.m. Student Council is also asking every student, kindergarten- 8th grade, to wear a solid orange shirt to show solidarity.  We tied orange ribbons around the trees on the school playground.

Student Council is a group of 7th and 8th grade students who work together to implement polices for our school. As well as enforcing the school’s “PRIDE” and 7 habits, this group has brought our community together to help us all strive for greatness.  We also focus on real world problems, such as gun violence.
