By Flora S., 4th grade
Ms. Chan has been a teacher at South Loop for 10 years. Just this year she began teaching fourth grade, after originally teaching third. She is an amazing teacher with a fun sense of humor and a love for Wonder Woman.
With Ms. Chan’s busy schedule, I was lucky enough to get a moment with her to ask a few questions.
Q: Is it hard to be a teacher and also be a mom?
A: Yes and no. Yes, because it is hard to find the balance between having time to teach and having time to be a new mom. And no, because the kids are able to keep me awake when I’m tired!
Q: Why did you dye your hair?
A: Because it keeps me unique and the kids love it.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant?
A: Quartino
Q: When did you know that you wanted to be a teacher?
A: When I was a kid I wanted to be a teacher so badly! I would even play pretend school with my dolls.
Q: Do you enjoy it?
A: I do, but there are some ups and downs. It’s never the kids, it’s just all of the scheduling, planning, grading and things like that.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do on your day off?
A: Be with the baby all day!
