To enroll in any Chicago Public School, you must be a resident of the City of Chicago and submit proof of guardianship, proof of child(ren) ages and proof of current address.

South Loop School is a diverse school in the heart of Chicago’s South Loop. South Loop serves families within the neighborhood boundaries and throughout the city of Chicago through its Fine Arts Magnet Cluster Program, Early Childhood Center, and Community School.

Students who live within the school’s attendance boundary can enroll automatically and do not have to apply. See below for documents required for registration.

Students who live outside the attendance boundary must submit an application through Office of Access & Enrollment (OAE) and GoCPS between October and December. Available seats, if any, are filled via computerized lottery. Priority is given to applicants with a sibling who is currently enrolled in the school in grade K-7, and who will remain enrolled in the school for the coming school year.

Registration Information

Enrollment Eligibility

• Preschool: If you have a child who will be three years or four years old on or by September 1, and are interested in a preschool program, please visit www.cps.edu/ChicagoEarlyLearning.  For personal assistance, please contact the South Loop Early Childhood Center at (773) 534-9066 or .

• Kindergarten: Child must be 5 years old but not yet 6 on or by September 1st

• 1st Grade: Child must be 6 but not yet 7 on or by September 1st

Required for Registration with NO EXCEPTIONS:

  • Illinois driver’s license or State of Illinois identification card with current boundary address. If you recently moved, please bring the paper copy issued by the Department of Transportation
  • Lease/Mortgage/ Deed (original documents- bring the entire lease agreement)
  • Proof of current address (includes, but is not limited to, any TWO of the documents listed below:
    • Two current utility bills (gas, electric, water – not cell phone/Internet) (or) 
    • If you pay only one utility bill, One original utility bill and one of the following:
      • Employee identification card
      • MediPlan/Medicaid card
      • Voter registration card
      • Court documents
      • Illinois Department of Public Aid card
      • Illinois state aid check/social security check
      • Other identification card issued by a federal or state agency or a foreign government consulate, such as a Matricula Consular
      • Other: __________________
  • Proof of age
    •       Original child’s birth certificate
  • School Transfer (transfer documents from the former school)

3 – Medical Forms (Physical, Dental, Vision)
All students must have a physical examination within one year of:

  • State of Illinois certificate of child health examination 
  • State of Illinois certificate of dental examination 
  • State of Illinois certificate of eye examination report

Immunization Requirements- We can provide you with the medical forms to take to your primary physician

  1. Diphtheria, Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
  2. Tetanus (DTP, DTaP & Tdap)
  3. Polio
  4. Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR)
  5. Hepatitis B
  6. Varicella (Chicken Pox)
    • Two (2) doses of varicella are required for kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th,11h, & 12th grades. The first dose on or after the first birthday and the second dose no less than four weeks (28 days) after the first dose.
    • One (1) dose required on or after the first birthday for PreK, 3rd, 4th, 5th, grades.
  7. Haemophilus Influenzae, Type B (HIB)
  8. Pneumococcal Conjugate (PCV)
    • If none is received before age 24 months, only one (1) dose is required from age 24 to 59 months of age. Not required age 5 years or older
  9. Meningitis Conjugate (MCV4)
    • One (1) dose of the meningitis vaccine for 6th, 7th and 8th grades.
    • Two (2) doses of the meningitis vaccine for 12th grade.
    • 2nd dose must be administered at least 8 weeks after 1st dose.
    • If the 1st dose was given at age 16 or older; only one (1) dose will be required for 12th grade.

Medical, eye and dental records:
The following must be provided during registration or as soon as they are available to you (before October 1, 2026).=

  1. Medical with up-to-date immunizations
  2. Eye exam
  3. Dental exam
