A Message From Principal Shelton: Around the World- Representating the Cultural Diversity of SLES

Dear Parents & Guardians,

South Loop School is one of the most culturally diverse schools within CPS. Our annual Around the World event allows us to showcase the different cultures represented in our school community. This event is always one of my favorite family events because not only do we get to embrace the diversity that our families bring to SLES, but we get to learn about different countries’ traditions, listen to music and see performances from many cultures, admire the clothing, and try so many delicious foods from around the world. It truly is a spectacular showcase of our school and community cultural diversity.

With that being said, I would love to see ALL of the various countries represented by our students showcased in our Around the World Family Event. Please consider hosting a display table and/or donating food to this year’s event. We encourage all our families to participate- whether you have been with us for years or you are new to our SLES family- we welcome you to share your culture and traditions with us. So far we have volunteers to showcase Albania, Australia, India, Ireland, Italy, Montenegro, Pakistan, Taiwan, and Turkiye. This is just a fraction of our representation and we hope more continue to volunteer!

This year’s event will be held on November 14th. We thought that having this cultural celebration in November would be the perfect way to start off the holiday season.

If you are able to participate or donate food, please complete the google form or reach out to Abby Dryer, our parent volunteer who is coordinating this event.
