More  information  about the Young Scholars program below, but wanted to draw your attention to a few specific items of note:

  • The application for this scholarship (for high achieving 7th graders with financial need) is presently open. See first page of attached flyer for details.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars Program is a national scholarship for students in eighth through twelfth grade who demonstrate exceptional academic abilities, unique talents, and persistence to achieve high aspirations. In addition, students must have financial need (family income of $95,000 or below). Through the Young Scholars Program, students receive individualized educational advising and financial support targeted to help them achieve their academic and talent goals. A team of educational advisers guides students to select appropriately challenging high schools and academic courses, participate in and lead extracurricular activities, connect with mentors, secure internships, and develop a network of inspiring peers and professionals. At the heart of our work, we aim to prepare Young Scholars to get into and thrive at great colleges and go on to fulfilling professional lives through which they make significant contributions to the world in whatever they choose to do.

The Young Scholars Program began in 2001. To date, we have graduated 986 diverse Scholars from rural, urban, and suburban communities across the United States. The most frequently attended colleges include Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, University of California at Berkeley, Columbia, and MIT.

Each year, approximately 65 diverse 7th grade students from across the United States are selected for the Young Scholars program. These students have demonstrated exceptional academic abilities and high achievement, and the Foundation begins working with them during their eighth-grade year. Over the course of the program, Young Scholars participate in a variety of academic and enrichment experiences designed to develop their talents and prepare them for success in college and beyond.
