Celebrating Our Vibrant Community This February

Dear Parents and Guardians,

February is a remarkably special month at our school. As we continue to honor Black History Month, we are also experiencing a rare “triple convergence” of global cultural and religious traditions—all occurring within the same week.

Our school is a tapestry of backgrounds, and we believe that recognizing these milestones helps foster a culture of belonging, curiosity, and mutual respect for every student.

What We Are Celebrating and Observing:

  • Black History Month: Throughout February, we are dedicated to honoring the triumphs, struggles, and enduring brilliance of African Americans. We are celebrating the legacies of leaders, artists, and scientists who have shaped our nation’s history and continue to inspire our future.
  • Lunar New Year: This week marks the beginning of the Year of the Horse. Known as the “Spring Festival,” it is a time for family reunions, honoring ancestors, and wishing for a year of energy, progress, and prosperity.
  • Ramadan: This week also signals the start of the holy month of Ramadan. For our Muslim families, this is a sacred time of spiritual growth, prayer, and fasting from dawn to sunset, emphasizing empathy for others and the importance of charity.
  • The Season of Lent: For many in the Christian tradition, this week begins the 40-day period of Lent—a time of reflection, simple living, and preparation through prayer and fasting.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

While these observances have different origins, they share a beautiful common thread: the invitation to pause, reflect, and support one another. We encourage you to talk with your children about the diverse traditions they see reflected in their school community this week. Whether your family is celebrating, fasting, or learning about these customs for the first time, we are proud to have you as part of our community.

Thank you for helping us make our school a place where every story is valued.

Sincerely,
Principal Shelton
