4th -8th grade families and students, please read the CELL PHONE POLICY– carefully. Sign th epolicy and retrun it back to the school by Septemebr 3rd. A copy will be sent home on the first day of school.
School is not a place for use of personal electronic devices. Therefore, once a student engages in a school-related function (e.g., arrival, field trip, hallway), no electronic devices of any kind should be seen or heard. Cell phones must be turned off and headphones/earbuds safely stored. If an adult sees or hears a student using an electronic device, the device will be confiscated and kept in the main office. Students will be responsible for informing their parents that their devices were taken and must be picked up by an adult. If a second cell phone infraction occurs; the parent can pick it up on the device on the last day of the school year. Uncollected devices will be discarded. For emergencies a phone is available for student use in the main office. Students must request permission to use the school phone.
Cell phones must be turned off and stored at all times when on school property, inside the school building and on any school related function/activity (Field -trips, team sports academic competitions etc) including the school bus.
Failure to adhere to this policy will result in discipline according to the Student Bill of Rights. While cell phones have offered parents a direct link to their children, they can and have created problems by creating a disruption to the educational process. Cell phones cannot be out for any reason during school hours/school activities (recess, lunch period, hallways, restrooms and morning drop off).
South Loop will NOT be responsible if a cellular device is lost, stolen, or misplaced. We will not investigate/look for lost or stolen cell phones.
In the event of an emergency only, please contact the main office for communication with your child(ren). Please do not call or text your child during school hours. Please do not encourage your child to call or text you during school hours: class time, lunch hours, recess breaks, restrooms, or during school -led activities.

- 2nd offense: Cell Phone will be returned at the end of the school year. .
- 3rd and ongoing offenses will result in following the guidelines of the Student Bill of Rights- in-school detention and/or out of school suspension.
