On behalf of Friends & Family of South Loop School…

September 28, 2020

Dear SLES Community,

On behalf of Friends and Family of South Loop School, we would like to welcome students and  their families to the 2020-2021 school year. This year looks different, but we are confident that teachers and administration, in partnership with families, are tirelessly working to make this a successful year for all of our students.

In order to support the transition to our new virtual environment, Friends and Family is using funds generously donated to have an impact – right now when it is needed most. We will continue to support SLES with resources not already provided by CPS throughout the year, including but not limited to:

  • online educational tools
  • remote learning instructional materials
  • technology resources
  • virtual field trips
  • professional development for teachers

The way we are able to provide these important resources is through donations from families, neighbors, local businesses, and friends of the school. Because of the pandemic and out of precaution, we made the decision to suspend the annual fundraising events we host in the fall (Fall Fundraiser) and winter (Boosterthon). We hope to resume in-person events with the Spring Benefit in May 2021.

In the meantime, we are working to safely bring additional opportunities to the SLES community while raising funds for the school over the next few months. Look out for upcoming announcements regarding the “Move to Halloween Challenge”, in which students will raise funds by running, walking, or riding their bike over the weeks coming to Halloween. We are also planning a number of virtual gatherings in the weeks and months ahead, so stay tuned for more announcements!

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who continues to support our school, whether through giving or volunteering. Our fundraising success would not be possible without the many volunteers who work tirelessly to help plan, coordinate, and run fundraising events every year. We understand this may be a time of hardship for many families, which makes the support from Friends and Family even more important. If you can support, please make a donation in the focus area of your choice.

In the meantime, please let us know if you have questions or ideas about where Friends and Family can provide support. You can contact us at ffsles@gmail.com.

We wish you and your family good health.

Sincerely,

Friends and Family of South Loop School Board
