Dear South Loop Families,
We know that you have likely received a lot of correspondence regarding COVID-19 and the importance of social distancing, but we want to provide you with some important details that are more specific to South Loop School and the school closure.
Today, Monday, 3/16 was an attendance day, however, any sick absences today will be excused with a written note from parents to be turned in when school resumes.
School buildings will be closed from Tuesday, March 17 through Monday, March 30. Attendance will resume on Tuesday, March 31. All school related meetings or events scheduled during the next to weeks are cancelled.
All three of our buildings will be closed during this time to undergo a deep clean. Access to each building will not be available.
Meals
Meal pick-up will be available at all CPS locations. Up to six meals per child will be provided each day between the hours of 9:00am and 1:00pm.
Distance Learning
You will have access to activities/homework via teacher’s classroom pages (ClassTag, Google Classroom) or download assignment packets here if you didn’t get a chance to pick up a printed packet. (NOTE: We are still uploading as we receive them, so if you don’t see your class packet please check back soon or contact your teacher directly.) Communication with teachers will be available via email. Teacher contacts can be found in the teacher’s and staff page under resources.
Additionally, we have provided an abundance of suggested resources that can be used at home, and we encourage you to explore these resources to help provide some variety and fun over the next couple of weeks at home. We will update the list as more resources become available. Please check back periodically.
Ways to Connect
If you do not have reliable internet connections at home, many providers are offering more data (no overage charges), free hotspots, or free internet to new subscribers. See some options below or contact your local internet or phone service provider to see if they are offering any additional plans for families.
Xfinity WiFi Free For Everyone:
Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free – including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit www.xfinity.com/wifi. Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots and then launch a browser.
You may also sign up for Internet Essentials from Comcast. New Internet Essentials customers will receive two free months of internet service. Visit internetessentials.com for details.
