To Our Amazing SLES Supporters,
With deep gratitude and immense joy, we are thrilled to share that our Spring Fundraising Campaign has raised an incredible $82,000 — surpassing our $75,000 goal and setting a new record for our school! This remarkable success would not have been possible without your generosity, dedication, and unwavering belief in the power of education and community.
To every parent who donated — whether through the pledge drive, tickets, t-shirt sales, auction, or by simply spreading the word — thank you. Your support means everything.
A very special thank you to our amazing volunteers:
Courtney Boerema, Tracy Carlson, Julie Chen, Jennifer Geiger, Ana Kostic, Maegan Krisko Flynn, and Emily Mariano. Your time, talent, and energy brought this fundraiser to life, and we are so grateful for each of you.
We also want to recognize our FFSLS Board:
Kate Neville, President
Melody Ashby, Interim Treasurer and Director of Technology
June Hou, Director of Fundraising
Ash Kakish, Director of Communications
Jessica Johnson, Secretary
Your leadership continues to be the backbone of our fundraising efforts.
On behalf of our staff, we share their heartfelt thank you for standing with them and our students this year and every year!

Why This Matters More Than Ever
As we navigate increasing uncertainty from the Department of Education and CPS’ ongoing financial challenges, our fundraising efforts are more critical than ever. While we continue to advocate for adequate public funding, your contributions allow us to secure the exceptional programs and resources our students deserve — regardless of shifting district priorities or shortfalls.
Your support helps fund:
- Robotics – $6,000
- Chicago Children’s Choir – $5,000
- Common Threads Cooking Class – $5,000
- Beta Club – $5,000
- Academic and Sports Teams (equipment/resources) – $10,000
- Instructional Books & Online Resources – $15,000
- Typing Practice Subscription
- Enrichment Materials and Opportunities
These are not just line items — they are the experiences and tools that ignite learning, creativity, and confidence in our children.
The Out-of-Uniform Pledge Drive is still ongoing and will wrap up on May 30th — there’s still time to give if you haven’t had a chance yet!
Together, we’re not just meeting a goal — we’re building a stronger, more vibrant future for every child at our school.
Sincerely,
Principal Shelton
