Recently we are seeing several cases of Hand Foot and Mouth disease (HFMD)

Definition: HFMD is a common viral infection that causes blisters in the mouth, hands, feet, and sometimes buttocks.

Cause: HFMD is primarily caused by enteroviruses, especially coxsackievirus A16.

Transmission: The virus spreads through contact with saliva, nasal mucus, or feces from infected individuals.

Symptoms:
·       Fever
·       Sore throat
·       Painful blisters in the mouth, hands, feet, and/or buttocks
·       Drooling
·       Loss of appetite
·       Irritability

Diagnosis: HFMD is usually diagnosed based on symptoms and physical examination.

Prevention: Wash hands frequently, Cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Avoid contact with infected individuals, and Disinfect surfaces that may be contaminated.

Next steps for the school when a case is reported:

We disinfect surfaces that may be contaminated: desks, chairs, door knobs, shared supplies, shared toys etc.

All Communicable Diseases are reported to CPS Disease and Prevention Response Team.

If you have any questions please contact the school nurse
